Exemption from Customs Duty
Furniture and personal effects
Importation of used furniture, personal effects and other domestic
articles (excluding firearms and weapons of any kind) may be imported
duty free if imported within six months of your arrival in Malta or from
the date of residency permit which ever is the later. Any enquiries should

Cars
One private car may be imported free of duty by a person (husband and
wife counting as one), if originating from an E.U. country and provided
that it has been in your possession for a minimum continuous period of
six months immediately before the date of permanent residency.
Repatriation Of Capital And Income
Any unspent income in excess of the minimum requirement may be
repatriated. Proceeds from the sale of the resident’s property and/or
other investments in Malta may also be repatriated.
Loan facilities for Non-Residents
Loan facilities in Malta are offered by local banks (HSBC, Bank of Valletta,
APS Bank and Lombard Bank) and are available for the purchase of property
by foreigners . The loan generally does not exceed 70% of the purchase
price and the completion costs of the property when the security given
for the loan is a hypothec on the property itself. The interest charged
is dependent on the security given.
