The majority of Tigne' Point, with the exception
of the eastern fringe areas, will be developed. Buildings (including both
new and existing heritage structures) will cover about 34% of Tigne' Point.
The 19th century barrack buildings including the distinctive Clock Tower,
has been dismantled to be re-erected at a later stage of the project in
a new location to form one side of a reconstructed pedestrian street.
This will include what will be referred to as the Clock Tower residences.
This street will constitute the main pedestrian link to the heart of Sliema.
A modern complex will accommodate a state-of-the-art
sports/shopping and entertainment facility.
The North and East Boulevard will house a modern 4 to 5 storey high residential
complex on the seaward side, and 7 storeys high on the internal side.
It will include modern office accommodation and underground parking.
The Main Pjazza will serve as the commercial heart of the Tigne' development.
Characterised by a contemporary commercial/cultural building, it will
provide a large urban space concentrating most of the public commercial
and leisure activities, surrounded by offices, cafes and shops, including
a public car park for 2000 cars.
The South development will be an exclusive residential centre, consisting
of blocks three to four storeys high above the level of the main Pjazza
serviced by large underlying car parking facilities provided on two layers
beneath these buildings.
A sports club and beach facilities, will provide tennis, swimming, and
general fitness facilities and will be linked to a club house situated
on the south shore of the peninsula and providing sailing, and diving
among others.
The Fort Tigne' area will be restored and redeveloped to accommodate a
complex of open-air environments including cafes, concert arenas, small
shops and studios, whilst the outer rampart area will be restored as park
areas open to the public.
Tigné Point is located on the north-eastern coast of Malta, approximately
one kilometer north of Valletta. It can be found along the Sliema Creek.
Sliema is a relatively new town and is considered as the most important
commercial centre after Valletta.
Sliema offers a choice of retail outlets, bars and restaurants, apart
from rocky beaches and a splendid long walk along its renowned sea front
leading to St. Julian’s and Paceville – the heart of nightlife
in Malta.
Tigné Point commands spectacular views of Sliema Creek, Manoel
Island and Valletta, Malta’s capital city built by the Knights of
St. John, and is of great historical value.
The area stretches from the Holiday Inn Crowne Plaza in the west to the
tip of the peninsula, and forms part of Sliema, one of Malta’s top
residential, commercial and
entertainment districts.
